Eulogy for Gene Underwood - Written and delivered by
Brandon Landerberg, 15 year old grandson of Mr. Gene Underwood.
Many of you know my granddaddy. Gene Underwood was a great man with a huge
heart. For me, it’s very hard to let him go and I know it’s hard for all of
you. I loved him with all of my heart and I thank God for every second I had
with him. At first, I didn’t want to let him go because I thought I wouldn’t
have anything to remember him by, but now I know I will have my wonderful
memories. Knowing he loved me has helped me get through these past few days. My
granddaddy helped my mom raise me and my brothers and sister. All of us had our
own special connection with him and we will never loose that. I’ve always been
afraid of death because I didn’t know what it truly meant, but I think it
means being released from pain and misery and going on to be with God and others
we’ve lost before. I know some of us haven’t known him as long as others,
but I can tell you, he loved us all the same. To me, and to many others, no one
will ever amount to the man he was. I know this is a bit long but, if you don’t
mind, I’d like to say... My granddaddy was always there for me and to me, his
heart beats as mine. So as my heart beats, so does his... Even if he’s no
longer on this earth.
