Eagleville Honors Those That Served Our Country

Local veterans present for the Memorial Day event held at the Eagleville City Park.

On Monday, May 25th the nation celebrated Memorial Day, a day set aside to honor those who defend our country through military service and Eagleville held its own time or remembrance.

At the Eagleville Park, a crowd gathered to salute those who have served and protected our freedoms, our borders and our interests across the world.

Master Sgt. James Faurie welcomed the attendees and the Eagleville School Jr. ROTC posted the Colors. The crowd sang the National Anthem as Boy Scout Troop 123 raised the flag at the newly completed memorial area in the ballfield area of the park. The crowd honored our country with the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag and honored our Creator with an invocation. A brief history of Memorial Day was presented to those in attendance.

Boy Scout, Daniel Wilson was honored with his Eagle Scout Award. Daniel is a member of Troop 123 and Scout Master Don Davis and former Scout Master Mike Hayes were on hand to award Daniel the highest rank in Boy Scouts.

Daniel chose to receive his Eagle Award at the Park on Memorial Day since his Eagle Project was the creation of a Veterans Monument at the park. This project required Daniel to not just complete the labor but to develop the project, plan the various aspects of it and manage its completion with volunteer help. The Eagle Project is designed for the Scout to demonstrate leadership skills.

Following the awarding of the Eagle rank to Daniel, Mayor Barham spoke to the crowd. His address was followed by a moment of silence ending with a wreath presentation in honor of those who have served the U.S. and called Eagleville home. Scout Nathan Cron played Taps and a benediction was offered to close the ceremony.

All those attending were touched by the honor and reverence given to those who dedicated all to protecting our freedoms.
