City Hall Now To Close On Friday

Eagleville councilmen agreed last week to start closing city hall on Fridays and staying open an hour longer the other four business days of the week.

The new schedule for city hall to be open will be from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Thursday with the office being closed for lunch. The current open hours are from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8 a.m.-noon on Friday, with the office being closed for lunch.

Councilmen Support City Charter On Residency

The issue over whether people living outside the city can serve on the Eagleville council was further resolved last week after councilmen agreed to support what the current charter says about residency.

The current charter says that those who live outside the city but in the Eagleville precinct and who own property in the city can be a council member or mayor as well as those who live in the city limits.

City Budget Calls For No Tax Increase

Eagleville councilmen approved Thursday night the 2009 fiscal year budget which is based on the current property tax rate of 87 cents per $100 of valuation.

The city is estimating the income from the property tax to remain basically the same as for 2008 at $98,000. Sales tax revenue is projected at $75,000, which is an increase of $30,000 from 2008.

The budget allows only $7,500 for police salaries and $500 for police vehicle expense, which means the city is not expecting to hire a police officer.
